Dear students, members and friends,

With COVID 19 officially listed as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) and with so much yet to understand, we wanted to take a moment to let you know the extraordinary and proactive steps we are taking to ensure the continuance of our workshops and classes. With the social distancing now in place we are in the period of adjusting to online education.

We are pleased to announce that we will offer a short series of presentations on the
History of Calligraphy hosted by one of our teachers, Kevin Honan. If you are interested and want to attend this virtual workshop please email us at info@calligraphy.ie

Our objective is to help keep Peannairí, the Association of Irish Calligraphers, in operation as a body that promotes calligraphy through teaching and workshops. As income from our classes has now ceased, we will ask for a donations from participants and there will be further details as we complete our preparations.

Stay safe.
Peannairí

About us

The aim of Peannairí is to encourage and develop the practice of calligraphy in Ireland. We introduce calligraphy to anybody who is interested through classes and workshops, in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. We organise weekend and one-day workshops on a variety of related skills: gilding, bookbinding, illumination, paper crafts to enhance the calligraphic work. The group welcomes everyone from complete beginners to enthusiasts who want to revive a skill. Our centre – The Peannairí Irish School of Calligraphy – is located at the Art and Business Campus Drumcondra (40 Drumcondra Road Lower – See map below). It is a dedicated permanent art, education and resource space dedicated to advancing education, participation and qualification in the artform of calligraphy.

We offer high quality classes (all levels) led by enthusiastic teachers. For more information please check the Classes listings for the latest term.

Our latest workshop

We had a very successful and enjoyable two-day workshop with a wonderful illuminator, calligrapher and art historian Barbara Bodziony, learning Medieval Manuscript Painting on 29-30th of March.
